Wrong-way driver causes 9-vehicle crash that claims 2 lives

The 405 Freeway was closed for traffic for over six hours in the aftermath of a multi-vehicle accident on a recent Saturday. According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, information about a wrong-way driver in Long Beach was received shortly before 4 a.m. CHP responded to the crash site, as did the paramedics and firefighters.

First responders arrived at the accident site in the southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway, where a chaotic scene involving nine vehicles awaited them. A report by the Long Beach Fire Department indicates that two people were ejected from their cars. Reportedly, paramedics rushed four people to hospitals in the area, two of whom suffered traumatic injuries. Five others suffered minor injuries that were treated at the scene.

According to a preliminary crash report, a wrong-way driver caused multiple collisions. Further reports indicate that two people lost their lives, one of which was the wrong-way driver. The reason for the person driving the wrong way on the freeway is not yet apparent.

When people in California suffer injuries in car accidents caused by other parties’ negligence, they might have grounds to file personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits to recover financial and other losses and damages. It gets more complicated if the alleged negligent driver did not survive the crash. However, the injured victims and the surviving family members of those who lost their lives could name the deceased negligent driver’s estate as the defendant. Along with medical expenses, or funeral and burial costs if applicable, lost wages and emotional damages like pain and suffering could form part of documented claims the plaintiffs can file for adjudication by the court.
