Crash involving semi claims 2 lives in Merced County

Semi-trucks are an important part of the economy in California and across the country, but they can easily cause serious and fatal injuries to others in accidents. Truck accidents can occur for a variety of reasons, including driver negligence or mechanical problems with the truck. No one knows exactly what caused a crash involving a semi-truckin Merced County recently, but the accident claimed the lives of two people and sent at least one other to the hospital.

Accident details

The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. on June 21. The accident happened on Highway 59 near Furtado Road. Reportedly, a semi and three other vehicles were heading south on the highway. For reasons unknown, the truck veered into the lanes of the other vehicles, striking three.

In the resulting accident, two people lost their lives, and another person was taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. One other at the scene refused medical treatment. It is not known whether the truck driver was injured, and the report did not identify the two deceased victims.

Pursuing compensation

Authorities do not know why the truck driver veered into the other lanes, but they do suspect impairment on the part of the truck driver. He could have been distracted or acting negligently in some other way, which lead to the crash. As is their right, the surviving family of the deceased victims as well as the injured victim can pursue civil claims against the truck driver, his employer and anyone else with ownership interest in the truck. Affected parties will want to work closely with an experienced personal injury attorney in California for help successfully navigating their claims.
