California crash leads to 1 death, 2 injuries

A man lost his life in a car crash in El Dorado County. Two others were injured in the two-vehicle wreck. The accident took place on Highway 50 close to Ice House Road during the afternoon on a recent Thursday.

How the car accident happened

The recent car accident occurred at about 3:20 p.m. The California Highway Patrol reported that a 52-year-old driver of a car suddenly entered the opposing lanes. The gender of that driver was not reported. The car then hit a sport utility vehicle operated by an 83-year-old man.

The SUV driver passed away at the scene. His male passenger, a 52-year-old, suffered major injuries and was rushed to a medical center. The driver of the first car suffered minor injuries in the collision. It was not immediately clear why the driver entered the opposing lanes.

Legal recourse available following the wreck

California police might determine through their investigation that the driver who crossed into oncoming lanes engaged in negligent driving, such as driving while distracted or speeding. In this situation, the surviving loved ones of the deceased sport utility vehicle driver might choose to file a wrongful death claim against this seemingly at-fault driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained due to the crash. Likewise, the injured passenger from the sport utility vehicle may file a personal injury claim against this individual. Successfully litigated claims may lead to damages to cover funeral expenses, hospital bills, the loss of support for the deceased driver’s surviving dependents and other documented losses stemming from the wreck.
